SUGAR
The annual demand of sugar in Bangladesh,
According to the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission,
the annual consumption demand for sugar in Bangladesh is 2 to 2.5 million tones.
Only 30,000 to 35,000 thousand of the country’s demand is met with locally produced sugar.
At present, Bangladesh can meet about 5 percent of its annual demand for sugar
through domestic production. BSFIC, helps the government to keep the sugar price
stable. In 2025 Bangladesh imported 1.2 million tones in Raw & Refined Sugar,
In 2022, Bangladesh imported Sugar, mainly from India ($512M), Pakistan ($53M)
Brazil ($453M), Malaysia ($3.11M), Australia ($1.63M), and Thailand ($849k).
SKIMMED POWDER MILK
Skimmed milk accounts for a majority of the import,
said some industry officials. Bangladesh’s annual average consumption of
skimmed milk was 35,000 tonnes in 2013-15. It is projected to
increase to 49,000 tonnes by 2025,The demand of milk in Bangladesh By 2030,
the demand for milk will increase to 17.22 million tons
(172.2 lakh metric tons) in Bangladesh. With the current production rate of 1
19.85 lakh metric tonnes, the nation must adopt effective solutions to increase
milk production to meet the ever-growing milk demand.
Although the amount Bangladesh spent on dairy imports was quite high due to inflation
and the increasing dollar rate, the volume was lower than in the previous years.
During the fiscal year of 2022-23, our country imported 118,000 tons of milk,
which was nearly 16% lower than the volume imported the previous year.

demand of soybeans in Bangladesh?
At the same year, Soybean Oil was the 17th most imported product in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh imports Soybean Oil primarily from: Argentina ($513M), Brazil ($393M),
Paraguay ($40.7M), Belgium ($227k), and Chinese Taipei ($171k).

It said soybean meal consumption in Bangladesh’s feed industry in
the 2024-25 marketing year is expected to reach 2.65 million tones,
a 150,000-tonne increase from the previous year.
WHEAT
The current yearly domestic demand for wheat is more than 8 million MT.
presently it is the third most important cereal after rice and wheat. The challenge
is that Bangladesh is highly dependent on imports. As per the latest report of the USDA
(U.S. Department of Agriculture) on Grain and Feed Annual, domestic production only meets
13% of total demand. The current annual wheat demand stands at 70-75 lakh tonnes.
Imports meet nearly 85-90% of consumption. Bangladesh’s wheat imports plummeted to
40 lakh tones in FY22 due to the combined impact of war-induced supply disruptions
CORN
Although maize is not a staple food cereal yet in Bangladesh, During 2021-22, 5.63
million ton of maize was produced from 0.55 million ha of land, whereas the annual grain
requirement is about 7.0 million tonsBangladesh imports Corn primarily from: India ($576M),

LENTIL
Lentil are in high demand on the market; according to estimates, the annual demand for
lentil in Bangladesh was 6.4 lakh MT in 2021, the total demand for pulses in 2030 will b
e 17.9 lakh MT, with an upward trend over the years; in 2040, it will rise to 18.9 lakh MT
and in 2050, it will further increase to 19.5 lakh MT.
